Situated in a building that was built in the year 1730, on the corner of Rue Beaubourg (famous for its Pompidou Center) and the quiet Rue des Gravilliers, this apartment is simply charming! The Marais was home to the French aristocracy in Paris, after King Henri IV built the Place des Vosges for his Italian wife, Marie de Medicis. You can visit some of these beautiful residences, such as the musée Carnavalet, or the Archives. The area had been deserted in the mid-19th century, when The Baron Haussman built his 'new Paris' and everybody wanted to live in new buildings with modern amenities on the new large avenues. However over the last thirty years, the Marais has been rediscovered and restored to its former glory, with beautiful paved courtyards behind magnificent doorways, beautiful staircases, high ceilings and windows, making beautiful, light spaces. Just a few streets away, you will find a myriad of fashionable shops for clothes or decorations, many bars and restaurants and a bustling street life in the heart of historical Paris. Being so central, it is really an ideal place to explore the city from. You can walk to Notre Dame, Bastille, Place des Vosges, the Pompidou center, The Montorgueil area, or even the Louvre, and there is a metro at the end of the street (Arts et Metiers) from which you can go anywhere you like.
The apartment is on the 3rd French floor, with high wood-beamed ceilings, large double-glazed windows and wooden parquet floors. The main room is 35 sq.meters (376 sq.feet) with a sleeping area on a mezzanine, which makes another 5sq.meters (54 sq.feet). It has been tastefully furnished to make you feel at much at home as possible. The high windows have heavy curtains and overlook a very peaceful street. There is a large leather armchair and a comfortable sofa, which can also serve as a bed for one person, as well as a large TV with cable, a dvd player/hi-fi system, a library with a selection of French books, CDS and even a small desk to write on.
The mezzanine sleeping area sleeps two people comfortably in a large 160cmX200cm bed. The living area can also sleep 2 other people: 1 on the sofa bed and 1 on a roll-away bed. The kitchen is very well equipped, with a 2 burner stove, a microwave, a French expresso maker, a large refrigerator, freezer and a dishwasher. The bathroom has kept its original old white-washed beams and has a large window overlooking the courtyard, a bath, a sink and a toilet. Under the mezzanine, there is a large walk-in closet with an iron and ironing board and lot of space to store your clothes and luggage.
